Angelo Smith Escalona Sevilla is 18 years old and was living with his mother and younger brother, in North Carolina. They had entered the United States together in September 2023.
Angelo has an active asylum application and a work permit. He was employed installing hardwood floors and general construction.
On February 8, 2025 Angelo was with 8 of his friends making a music video in an apartment. ICE agents came to the apartment and arrested all 8 of them. There was no reason given for the arrest.
Angelo called his mother from the detention on the evening of March 14 to tell her he would be deported to Venezuela.
He did not arrive in Venezuela and the family had no information on his whereabouts. His family recognized some of his friends on the videos put out, but did not see him. On March 20th they saw Angelo’s name on the list that was published by CBS News.
Angelo’s family has not had contact with him and no confirmation from the United States Govt or the government of El Salvador.
