Andry José Hernández Romero is a 31-year-old gay man who works as a makeup artist and hairdresser

In August of 2024 he legally crossed the border to attend a prearranged asylum appointment in San Diego. Andry was seeking asylum because he was being persecuted because of his sexual orientation and political views.

Andry has a tattoo of a crown with his mother’s name on one forearm and crown with his father’s name on the other forearm. It is a tradition from his town which is famous for annual Three Kings Day celebration.

He was detained and accused of being a member of Tren de Aragua. Andry was held for 6 months.

He was deported to CECOT. An American photographer said that:

Andry was crying for his mother and kept telling the guards “I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a make-up artist.”

On March 29th, Joe Rogan said “It’s horrific… let’s not [let] innocent gay hairdressers get lumped up with the gangs,” he said, asking: “Is there any plan in place to alert the authorities that they’ve made a horrible mistake and correct it?”
